IOR is a modern institution directly subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Poland, covering general plant protection problems in the whole country by doing research, implementation and extension. The main research area is: biology, ecology and harmfulness of disease casual agents, pests and weeds in field crops (cereals, maize, sugar beet, oil seed, potato) and agricultural products; elaboration of biological methods in plant protection with respect to organic farming (entomopathogenic nematodes, fungi and viruses, predators and parasitoids); elaboration and development of decision-making systems for protection treatments; examination of pesticide quality; monitoring pesticide residues in agricultural products, soil and water; development of integrated pest management.
