BCS is an agrochemical company with an internationally recognised experience in the development of novel products to control plant diseases, pests and weeds in order to enhance crop yields and plant health. BCS has an increasing interest in integrated pest management in order to develop multidisciplinary strategies linking pesticide management and systemic approaches to control crop pests and diseases. BCS has also developed interest in alternative control methods (biological control, plant defence stimulation, natural products). Research on Chemical control rely on the high throughput screening methods of large collection of chemicals to identify novel compounds active on insects, fungi and plants. These compounds are optimized for their activity but also tested for their toxicity and environmental effects in order to design molecules that fulfil the regulatory requirements for both toxicology and ecotoxicology. Long term partnerships on Biological Control Research focuses on the identification of novel methods for controlling insects and diseases that are efficient in the fields is one key approach. In addition, research activities on Pesticide management range from survey of field resistances to pesticides and assaying fitness costs associated to resistance to the identification of the mechanisms of pesticide resistance in order to propose efficient resistance management strategies. Environmental Risk Assessment at BCS benefits from huge developments in toxicology (direct and environmental) that deliver important indicators for the optimization of novel pesticides. BCS is also actively developing activities in Integrated Pest Management to support farmers in their control of pests and diseases, including epidemiological studies, forecasting and modelling.
