Natural Plant Protection (20 employees) is specialised in the production of Biopesticides. NPP is the first European producer of Cydia pomonella GranuloVirus (CpGV)-based insecticides, under the brand Carpovirusine®. This product is currently commercialised in four continents and 16 countries to control the main pest on apples and pears, Cydia pomonella (codling moth). Other NPP products are based on fungus, pheromones and plant extracts. NPP has a strong experience on the industrial production of Baculovirus and large scale rearing insects. NPP has also developed an expertise through Carpovirusine Quality Control activity using virus counts (dark field microscopy) and determination of virus activity (bioassays). In the 5 last years, NPP was strongly involved in two projects to study and find solutions to the cases of Cp resistance to CpGV observed in France, Italy and Germany. In these two projects, first solutions to Cp resistance were proposed with the development of new CpGV isolates active on Cp resistant strains. More specifically, the approach of virus-insect co-evolution principle was successfully used to generate new isolates. NPP also has the experience to evaluate viral-based insecticides at field.
