Thursday, March 10, 2011

The 4th International Conference on Non Chemical Crop Protection Methods was held in Lille on March 8th, 9th & 10th 2011 with the presence of Patrizia Pitton, from the DG SANCO (Unit E3 – Plant Protection Products, European Commission).

This conference followed the three previous conferences organised in Lille in 1998, 2002 and 2006. As a result of technological advances as well as consumer and citizen expectations, this conference aims to present the latest advances in non chemical plant protection methods.

The different themes was approached in specialized sessions and will concentrate on field and glasshouse crops and on the following topics: “Regulations and Decision Tools for risk assessment”, “New alternative tools: Genomics, pheromones, plant extracts and physical methods control”, “New alternatives tools: Plant Defence Inducers, biological control” and “Reflection on innovative strategies”

This conference provided an international forum for scientists, teachers and technicians and also training and information for growers and many others people.

450 participants attended the conference which saw 34 oral communications and 70 posters. Among them was a poster specifically devoted to presenting the ENDURE Network and the PURE project (see Publications).
