A collaborative modelling platform: Universal Simulator

Universal Simulator is a generic modelling tool aimed at model developers in life sciences, foremost in the area of applied ecology. A first version of Universal Simulator was developed in the ENDURE project, targeted at integrated weed management, and it is the overall objective in PURE to develop Universal Simulator further as a tool, making it a useful tool for ecological modelling in general and crop protection in particular.

Thus Universal Simulator would be available as a common modelling tool, across PURE activities and also outside PURE, as Universal Simulator is developed as an open-source tool using standard programming procedures.

The purpose of this deliverable is to have established Universal Simulator as a collaborative modeling platform.

How this was accomplished is detailed below concerning these three objectives:
· To establish Universal Simulator as a general-purpose modelling tool that can be used as a common modelling platform in PURE.
· To develop Universal Simulator-based models in collaboration with other PURE activities.
· To use Universal Simulator as teaching tool in a yearly, web-based PhD course on ecological modelling.
