The mission of Wageningen University is academic research and education in the life sciences. The plant sciences department includes all disciplines necessary to conduct state-of-the-art research on sustainable agriculture and IPM. The Centre for Crop Systems Analysis (CCSA) has five strategic research themes, three of which are particularly relevant to PURE: (a) quantitative agro-ecology, (b) designing climate-robust cropping systems and (c) interactions between natural and social sciences. The group has expertise in the analysis and design of IPM systems for weeds and plant diseases, and the design of pest and disease suppressive landscapes that facilitate and enhance natural pest suppressive processes. The expertise of CCSA is complemented by that of the Biological Farming Systems Group, which focuses on integrative system performance at farm and regional level, as well as spatial ecology and natural pest suppressive processes.
