CNR (Italian National Research Council) is the largest Italian research organisation employing around 5,000 researchers, about 500 of whom work in the agriculture sector (i.e. Department of Agriculture and Food). Two CNR Research Institutes will be involved: the Weed Science Unit of the Institute of Agro-environmental and Forest Biology (IBAF), the Institute of Plant Protection (IPP). CNR has consolidated experience in developing strategic approaches in control and management of crop pests (i.e. weeds science, pathogens, arthropods, nematodes and soil beneficial organisms) and in analysing interactions among crop-pest organisms and the environment with the main goal of building up innovative approaches for sustainable crop protection. CNR competencies are strengthened and completed by researchers from the Universities of Padova (Dept. of Environmental Agronomy and Crop Science), Piacenza (Inst. of Plant Pathology and Entomology) and Naples. CNR has long-standing collaborations and formal links with these Universities.
